SAF ADOPTS 2-STEP ANODIZING
SAF has adopted the 2-Step Aluminum coating process (Electrolytic Coloring), and discontinued the Integral Color (Duranodic) Anodizing process. The differences between the two Anodizing processes help to show why.
2-STEP (ELECTROLYTIC COLORING)
- Chief benefit of 2-step anodizing: does not craze during fabrication as badly as Integral Color.
- Another plus for architectural applications: Anodized Color is independent of coating thickness.
- Lower energy cost to produce
- Better aluminum availability for both batch & coil processing
- In general, more Anodizers prefer the 2-step process.
INTEGRAL COLOR (DURANODIC) DISCONTINUED – NO LONGER OFFERED BY SAF
- Harder anodized coat (more dense) than 2-step, more subject to crazing during fabrication
- Anodized Color varies depending on coating thickness.
- Generally a thicker anodized coat, unless Class I 2-step is specified.
- Single step process.
- Hides welds a little better.
